Scottish government urges Diageo to reconsider restructuring

Scotland’s first minister has blasted Diageo’s decision to close its Kilmarnock packing plant and cut 900 jobs, and has pledged the government will do all it can to protect the affected workers.

ECO-CONSCIOUS children could be shaping Government plans with revolutionary ideas to reduce our environmental impact.

Their suggestions for cutting waste and saving energy are considered so good that ministers are expected to introduce them into green policies.

Among their demands is for all soft drinks bottles to be made from clear plastic which they claim will drastically reduce the energy needed to remove heavy dyes during recycling.

International Paper launches commercially compostable cold cup with Coke

International Paper (IP) has expanded its beverage container range with the launch of a commercially compostable cold cup in conjunction with Coca-Cola.

The US company added the new container to its ecotainer line, in response to demands from university students for a more environmentally-friendly cold cups. The original ecotainer, which came to market in 2006, was designed solely for the hot cup segment. IP said it was now the first company “to have an integrated offer of hot and cold paper cups that are made from 100% renewable resources”.

Gillette global marketing campaign takes earthier approach

Crabtree & Evelyn files for bankruptcy in the US

Specialty soaps and skin care provider Crabtree & Evelyn has filed for bankruptcy in the US, becoming the latest personal care player to fall victim to the economic crisis.

The company today announced that it was filing for chapter 11 of the US bankruptcy code, and underlined the fact that other affiliates, including operations in the European Union, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and Australia, were not filing for protection of this kind.
